ARINC 429 Extends Compatibility With Leading EFIS Units
FreeFlight Systems, an international supplier of avionics
systems for commercial and military aircraft, announced this week
the introduction of the RA-4500, the latest addition to its TSO
certified family of radar altimeters.
Like its predecessor, the RA-4000 that provides altitude over
serial data links, the RA-4500 supplements its performance and
functionality with an industry-standard ARINC 429 digital
interface. Consisting of a remote unit and dual antennas for
increased accuracy, the RA-4500 provides precise altitude
above-ground-level (AGL) information from 0 to 2000 feet.
This real-time system is designed to enhance operational safety
for pilots flying approaches, night time operations, and over
irregular terrain.
"Since ARINC 429 is widely used in all types of aircraft, the
RA-4500 Radar Altimeter provides an easy choice for pilots wanting
enhanced situational awareness when flying close to the ground, but
in a package that is affordable, reliable, and convenient to
install," states Tim Taylor, president and chief executive officer,
FreeFlight Systems. "The RA-4500 is designed to easily interface
with many of the leading electronic flight instrument systems in
the market today which eliminates a barrier to bringing this
important safety enhancement to pilots," adds Robert Schneier,
chief operating officer, FreeFlight Systems.
Including dual antennas, the RA-4500 system list price starts at
$9,925, and is backed by a two-year warranty. In February 2009,
FreeFlight Systems plans to introduce the RAD-40 Indicator which
will be compatible with both the RA-4500 and the RA-4000.
