A yearly tradition of the Sun 'n Fun Aerospace Expo, the Hometown Hero ride honored Sergeant Chad Mumbauer of the Lakeland Police Department. The Hometown Hero ride takes place with each year's respective military demonstration team, thanking those public servants that make the week possible through their patience, effort, adn assistance throughout Sun 'n Fun. The City of Lakeland PD and the Polk County Sheriff's Office have been instrumental in keeping things safe and secure throughout the event.

Patty Wagstaff is a world-renowned aerobatic pilot, got her start in aviation in Alaska where she started taking flying lessons, eventually earning a CFII, commercial Rotorcraft, and type ratings in the TBM Avenger, T-28, and L-39. She rose to prominence in 1991 when she won the first of her three U.S. National Aerobatic Championships and was the first woman to win that championship.

Project Kuiper's 3,000+ Satellites to Launch Aboard 83 Rockets Over Next 5 Years

Amazon has struck an agreement with French space launch provider Arianespace, Blue Origin, and the United Launch Alliance for their recently announced Project Kuiper satellite constellation. The surprising contract broke records for being the biggest commercial procurement of launch vehicles in history, purchasing the heavy-lift capacity required in order to deploy the Kuiper constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit. The system will provide global broadband access once completed, with the full constellation expected to deploy between 83 launches over a 5-year period.

Concurrently with this development, however, has come fear for workers in the company’s Ukrainian facility. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency recently submitted a validation request to the FAA for the F2. The request, which is being processed through the Small Aircraft Standards Branch in Kansas City, Missouri, is the next step in getting the two-seat high wing certified under Part 23. Raisbeck Engineering has obtained an STC for its EPIC drag reduction system for the Cessna 208B Caravan. 

Epic allows those operating a Caravan equipped with an underbelly cargo pod to reduce drag and increase cruise speeds, while reducing fuel burn. The 208B, for all its wonderful backcountry capability, is not a sleek bird, especially with its underslung locker being carried around, adding significant drag, wasting fuel and decreasing top speed. Raisbeck's drag reduction is done by using a composite Forward Cargo Pod Fairing and metal Dual Aft Body Strakes, leading to a more tapered nose section that flows smoothly into the cargo compartment. Duncan Aviation has shown off their newest overhaul, a full interior/exterior revamp of a Falcon 2000EX. The aircraft made its way into Duncan’s hands at their Battle Creek, Michigan facility with an out-of-vogue beige interior, gold accents, and dated paint scheme. The current owner wanted an aircraft that presented better to passengers, one that looked convincingly new and modern, so Duncan put their lead designer, Heather Pridemore, on the case. New Letter of Agreement Squashes Beef Over Code-Share Partnership With American

JetBlue Pilots ratified their a deal with company management, ending their dispute witha letter of agreement that puts the yearlong issue to rest. Of the eligible pilot base, nearly 90% participated in the vote, which tallied a 60% approval rating to ratify the pilot's agreement as presented. The deal provides improvements to the pilot's current collective bargaining agreement while giving them significant say in the renewal of the Northeast Alliance, the main point of dispute that brought about the new agreement in the first place.

NATA has officially launched an online directory to gauge the participation of FBOs and airports in "leading industry safety programs." The National Air Transportation Association launched the Safety 1st Verify in order to give interested customers an easy, one-stop spot to see who participated and maintains standards as a part of "Safety 1st, IS-BAH, Safety 1st Clean, and Fuel QC Management System." The Safety 1st directory is a continuation of an older dataset from the NATA, the FBO Status Map, that offers improved search and filtering actions as well as more robust operational and facility information.

On March 02, 2022, about 0800 Pacific standard time, a Cessna 182D, N8814X, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Mortmar, California. The commercial pilot sustained minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that shortly after departure from Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport, the airplane climbed to 400 ft above ground level and leveled off. Shortly after level off, a noticeable decrease in engine rpm was observed by the pilot, followed by a total loss of power.
