Airborne 02.10.20: Bryant Crash Update, Army Aviator Pay, ABACE 2020 Nixed

NTSB has issued an investigative update for its ongoing investigation of the fatal, Jan. 26, 2020, helicopter crash near Calabasas, California. The Sikorsky S-76B helicopter collided with hilly terrain and was destroyed by impact forces and fire. The pilot and eight passengers were fatally injured. "Our investigators have already developed a substantial amount of evidence about the circumstances of this tragic crash," said NTSB Chairman Robert L. Sumwalt. "And we are confident that we will be able to determine its cause as well as any factors that contributed to it so we can make safety recommendations to prevent accidents like this from occurring again.&rdq

The much anticipated jetliner program from Mitsubishi Aircraft has been frustrating the industry for a while now... and will again, due to supply issues with parts needed to manufacture the Next-Gen airliner. A half-dozen delays have created some consternation for the company and its client base, as the first delivery to Al Nippon Airways is not looking to take place to mid-2021.

NASC Successfully Completes Test Flight Of TEROS UAV

UAV Flew For Approximately An Hour And A Half

Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation (NASC) has successfully completed a test flight of the NASC TEROS UAV, Technology Demonstrator at the NASC Unmanned Aerial Systems Flight Operations and Training Center at the Griffiss International Airport in Rome, New York. During the flight, the UAV flew for approximately an hour and a half in both manual and autonomous flight profiles, which successfully tested the aircraft systems/avionics suite. “Today’s successful flight is a huge step toward reaching our ultimate goal of TEROS approval for integration into the National Airspace,” says Richard Leverich, senior program engineer, Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation.

IAC Adds New Flight Medal To Recognition Programs

The International Aerobatic Club is adding an interesting new recognition program to its roster. IAC says that together with her father, Dick Swanson, Sara Arnold regularly participates in the International Aerobatic Club, the world’s largest aerobatic club. Dick has been a competitor for many years, starting in a Citabria in 1983. The pair fly an American Champion Super Decathlon and are the only known father-daughter duo currently competing in regional and national IAC contests. Airbus Helicopters and the French Armament General Directorate (DGA) are pursuing a new set of studies to further the militarisation of the H160 and to define its associated support ecosystem in the frame of the Joint Light Helicopter program. This contract launches pre-development activities for the military version of the H160, also called the Guépard by the French armed forces, in order to meet the delivery schedule that was brought forward in May 2019 by the French Minister of Armed Forces, Florence Parly.

New York Democratic Congressmembers Carolyn B. Maloney), Jerrold Nadler, and Nydia Velázquez are hitting the media trail in their attempt to force FAA Administrator Stephen Dickson to adopt all of the NTSB recommendations for doors-off helicopter sightseeing tours that were borne from the Board’s investigation of the March 11, 2018 crash of an Airbus AS350 helicopter in the East River that caused the deaths of all five passengers. The members introduced the Improving Helicopter Safety Act of 2019 on October 28, 2019 to address 'recent deadly helicopter incidents in New York City.'

From The NTSB Preliminary Report: On January 15, 2020, about 1511 mountain standard time, a Cessna T-310P airplane, N5805M, impacted terrain near Roy, Utah, while on approach to Ogden Airport (OGD), Ogden, Utah. The commercial pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was substantially damaged. The airplane was registered to S.A.C. Industries LLC and operated by Goode Ski Technologies as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed for the local flight that originated from Skypark Airport (BTF), Bountiful, Utah, at 1500 and was destined for OGD.
