Lockheed Martin, Kaman Aerospace To Collaborate On The Project

The U.S. Army has awarded a $47 million contract for the development, demonstration, and delivery of autonomous technologies for unmanned air systems in support of in-theater unmanned cargo resupply missions to Lockheed Martin. Under the contract, Lockheed Martin and Kaman Aerospace will demonstrate intelligent autonomous technologies for unmanned aerial systems using the K-MAX helicopter platform.

U.S. Air Force Awards C-5 Program Training Contract

Nearly $6 Million To Lockheed Martin For Training In Seven Locations

The U.S. Air Force has awarded a $5.8 million one-year contract from FlightSafety Services Corporation to manage C-5 aircrew training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and provide logistical support for six other training locations to Lockheed Martin. The contract includes four one-year options that, if exercised, would total $30 million.

Autonomous ScanEagle, Procerus Unicorn Communicate Over Search Area

The successful autonomous communications and operation of dissimilar unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in flight tests over the rugged terrain of eastern Oregon was announced Thursday by Boeing. The July 7-10 mission used two ScanEagles manufactured by Boeing subsidiary Insitu and one Procerus Unicorn from The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL). The UAVs communicated using a Mobile Ad Hoc Network and swarm technology developed by JHU/APL.

Flexrotor Long-Endurance VTOL Aircraft Transitions To Wing-Borne Flight

Aircraft Designed To Be Autonomous In The Air And On The Ground

Transition between hover and wing-borne cruise was demonstrated Friday by Aerovel's Flexrotor UAV ... capabilities which allow it to combine VTOL with range of more than 1,600 nm and endurance exceeding a day and a half. Aerovel's president, Tad McGeer, explains that "transition requires a climb, pitch-over, dive, and zoom, so we entered the new regime with a roller-coaster thrill. But after a few seconds the ride turns sedate, with the engine ticking over for long-endurance cruise at 50-60 kt, and the big rotor hardly making a sound."
