Coast Guard Medevacs Man Off Oregon Inlet, NC

MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter Aircrew From Air Station Elizabeth City Affect Rescue

The Coast Guard medevaced a 41-year-old male who suffered a laceration on his leg while aboard a 25-foot vessel located 34 miles off Oregon Inlet, Friday afternoon. Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders received the distress call on VHF channel 16, and Coast Guard Cutter Nathan Bruckenthal, who was seven miles away from the distressed vessel, also overheard the transmission. Sector North Carolina watchstanders launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City to respond, and the crew of the Nathan Bruckenthal self-diverted to assist.

SkyRaider Can Carry And Deliver External Loads Up To 4.4 Pounds

FLIR Systems Inc. will deliver dozens of its SkyRaider UAS to the United States Marine Corps after being awarded a $10 million contract. The FLIR R80D SkyRaider is FLIR’s most advanced military UAS. Developed for U.S. defense and federal government customers, the UAS is equipped with long-range, high-resolution EO/IR imaging sensors that provide day and night situational awareness. For forward resupply, asset extraction, and other specialized missions, SkyRaider can carry and deliver external loads up to 4.4 pounds. The UAS also features “some of the most powerful” embedded AI processing available on a small UAS, according to FLIR.

Col. Philip Ryan Replaces Brig. Gen. Allan Pepin The U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command welcomed a new commander at the U.S. Army Special Operations Command headquarters at Fort Bragg. Col. Philip Ryan replaced Brig. Gen. Allan Pepin as the sixth commander for the U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command. Pepin will serve as the deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg. Lt. Gen. Francis Beaudette, commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, presided over the ceremony.
