Airborne 02.05.14: Carter PAV Sets Records, Van's RV 6/7/8 SB, New Life For C130J

During January, test pilot Larry Neal flew the Carter Personal Air Vehicle (PAV) prototype breaking five of its own records. He set an altitude record of nearly 18,000 feet, slowed the rotor to a new minimum of 105 rpm which is Mu 1.3, and achieved a level 202 mph true air speed. The flight was well over one hour; the longest flight to date. Jay Carter said, “We are expanding the envelope in baby steps. Raytheon To Begin Phase 3 On DARPA Persistent Close Air Support Program

PCAS Designed To Provide Quicker Close Air Support For Ground Troops

Raytheon Company is beginning Phase 3 of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Persistent Close Air Support (PCAS) program. DARPA has exercised its Phase 3 option with Raytheon, an 18-month, $25.5 million effort scheduled to culminate in a series of flight tests and live-fire demonstrations.
