A longstanding operator at New York's JFK International and LaGuardia Airports has finished its tenure after its FBO assets and operations have been acquired by Modern Aviation. Modern is a national network of FBO properties, on the rise as the company generally looks to acquire and develop operations in growth markets to expand their base. New York area FBOs would seem more likely to be classified as legacy operations instead of growth, but the high-profile locations are undoubtedly a solid addition to any collection of FBO gems as some of the most internationally trafficked and recognizable names in air travel around the world.

Sustainable Fuels Loaded up in Game Area Airports, With Carbon Credits On Tap

Avfuel Network has announced the requisition of sustainable aviation fuel for those airports operated in conjunction with their fuel network in close proximity to the game's SoFi Stadium. Those customers looking to defray the environmental impact of their flight to the Bowl can refuel at Million Air Burbank (KBUR), ACI Jet-Orange County (KSNA) and Castle & Cooke Aviation (KVNY). Should operators desire, a carbon offset program adds an additional per-gallon fee to purchase carbon credits that invest in green projects. Each credit purchased is said to offset nearly 100 gallons of jet fuel.

For the 4th Year in a Row, Flight Training Center Rewarded for Performance

For the 4th time in a row, AeroGuard Flight Training Center has been given the AMT Diamond Award program for 2021. Their win of the FAA Award of Excellence recognizes its devotion to aircraft maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance. In the post-pandemic recovery era, AeroGuard points to their efforts at scaling up and expanding student loads while maintaining the same level of safety. The Diamond Award requires that 100% of all mechanics, repair staff and technicians earn an AMT Certificate of Training in 2021, in addition to surpassing FAA regulatory requirements with additional education in specialized components.

Commercial Spaceflight Federation Joins Hands with Grace Smith Fellowship to Promote Student Internships

The Commercial Spaceflight Federation and Patti Grace Smith Fellowship program announced the expansion of a program to bring three students to Washington, D.C., in order for them to participate in the 24th Commercial Space Transportation Conference. The Fellowship bears the name of Smith, a trailblazer for women like her, who passed away in 2016 after a long career in expanding access to aviation. The Fellowship honors her work by "encouraging young women of color to pursue aerospace and STEM careers," by selecting students among those from the Fellowship's fellows and applicants.
