Able Flight Announces Scholarship Class of 2022

Purdue University will see the members of Able Flight's class of 2022 

Able Flight, a 501c3 organization devoted to expanding flight experience and aviation career training to people with disabilities, has announced its 2022 batch of scholarship recipients. This year's group includes 2 veterans, a first for the program. All 6 recipients use wheelchairs due to accident, illness, or combat injury. Before they report for the flight portion of their training, they will attend online ground school, made available by Sporty's Pilot Shop, as well as live remote instruction from Purdue. Once complete with their ground school, they'll head to Purdue University in late May ahead of 7 weeks of flight training for their check rides in July.

Museum Holding Sweepstakes for Ride in Tandem Mustang, Warhawk, Spitfire

The American Heritage Museum has opened a fundraiser sweepstakes, with multiple vintage, classic warbird flights on tap for the selected winners. Dual-control variants of the Warhawk, the Mustang, and Supermarine Spitfire let anyone enjoy their time at the controls, each a treasured heirloom representing the greatest generation. The top winner of the Ultimate WWII Fighter Experience Sweepstakes will head to London, England  to go through abbreviated training at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar right outside the city. Even the scenic airfield made its bones as a WWII base, being a staging location for RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain and the Blitz in the summer

FAA Issues Warning On Expense Sharing for Pilots

Continuing Crackdown on Illegal Operations Puts Flight Sharing, Time Sharing, Leasing in Sights

In a follow on to a May 2020 informational pilot letter, amid a continuing operation to address unlawful and illegal air charter operations, the FAA has published its infographic for use at airports throughout the airport system. The FAA reminds those who could be at risk of incorrectly applying expense sharing that guidance is available in Advisory Circular 61-142. The vintage bugbear of "holding out" has been brought back to life, newly invigorated by the societal shifts of ubiquitous smartphones.

NTSB Prelim: Mooney M20C

The Airplane Impacted Open Desert Terrain About 56 Miles Northwest Of The Marana Regional Airport

On December 31, 2021, about 1330 mountain standard time, a Mooney M20C, N6796N, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Marana, Arizona. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. Family of the pilot reported that he had departed Marana Regional Airport (AVQ), Marana, Arizona, on December 31, 2021, with an intended destination of French Valley Airport (F70), Murrieta/Temecula, California. Flight Service was notified by concerned family that the pilot had not arrived at the French Valley Airport and was 5 hours overdue.
