Russia/UK Flight Operations Bans Enacted, Others Inbound?

Carriers Take a Hard Look at Whether Russian Integration is Appropriate

In a tit for tat move for the British ban on Russian-owned aircraft in their airspace, the country's civil aviation regulator, Rosaviatsia, has returned the favor by barring UK-operated aircraft from Russian airspace. The Russian restriction was said to be the result of "unfriendly decisions by the UK aviation authorities," that "restricted regular flights of aircraft owned, leased or operated by a person associated with, or registered in Russia." It should be noted that Russia is only expected to impose bans on foreign operators should they receive one first, as no spontaneous sanctions have even been floated by their regulators in passing.

Industry Groups Commit to Unleaded Future

'Eagle Initiative' Aims for Mass Availability of Lead-Free Avgas by 2030

The industry consensus around the continued use of 100 low-lead avfuel has grown increasingly impatient in recent years. The awkwardly-named but aptly shortened Eliminate Aviation Gasoline Lead Emissions - or EAGLE initiative, will "expand and accelerate the actions and policies necessary for a viable high-octane unleaded replacement for the current 100 octane low-lead aviation gasoline (100LL), without compromising the existing U.S. transportation infrastructure system, aviation safety, and the economic and broader public benefits of general aviation."

Ukraine Conflict Pushes Services to the Limit As Onlookers Monitor Flights in Region

Amid the interesting goings-on in Ukraine, aviation nerds have pummeled the service of flight tracking website Flightradar24. After continuously monitoring every last scrap of minutiae over Ukrainian airspace, generating almost 20 times the level of average daily traffic, the site's service gave out. In another vignette of war in the modern world, a series of surveillance systems and traffic control gave onlookers a highly granular, surprisingly accurate view of the hostilities from moment to moment.

King Updates FOI Course

CFI Mainstay Revisited and Revised for the Modern Era

Those looking to achieve their flight instructor certificate have a new option to complete the teaching-oriented portion of their program, with the improved and updated Fundamentals of Instruction Course available through the King Schools site. As the school notes, the FAA's Aviation Instructor's Handbook is a somewhat abstract portion to tackle after so many lessons on aviation, coming out of left field for the fledgling instructor with a bevy of psychological, academic, and instructional terms that can prove to be a stumbling block for more practical-minded pilots.

Emirates President Frustrated with 777X Delays

Says "Boeing Really Needs to Get Their Act Together" After 8-Year Backorder

Dubai's Emirates has joined with fellow Boeing waitlisters in debating their retention of order slots for the 777X if delays continue. The airline's president, Tim Clark, has hinted that the 8-year-old order of 115 777-9Xs are looking less attractive by the day as their delivery is pushed out far beyond any initial expectations. In an interview with an airline trade publication, he said "We don’t want to cancel the 787s or the 777-9s, we want the airplanes. What is going to happen when the A380 goes otherwise, what am I left with? But we want the aircraft in the shape that the contract requires."

As Sales Increase Across the Board, Why Don't Gulfstream and Bombardier Capitalize on the Boom?

Brian Foley and associates have taken note of the business aviation market's resurgence as it approaches its pre-pandemic levels of manufacture and sales, but noted the slightly off-kilter stance of some of the biggest names in business jets. "But just as new business jet sales begin to take off after more than a decade in the doldrums, some plane makers are temporarily stuck on the sidelines unable to fully capitalize on the upswing." So what's happening?

Aero-News: Quote of the Day (02.26.22)

"Honestly, if it goes beyond 2023, and it goes on for another year, we will probably cancel the program. What else can we do? We can’t continue the way we are. Boeing really needs to get their act together and get this aircraft sorted. Don’t forget – the aircraft was originally designed for delivery in April 2020, it’s now 2024 if we are lucky. You’ve now got a four-year delay with the program. If they got another year on it, we are going to question if this is fit for purpose or not, what’s the problem with it?" Source: Dubai's Emirates has joined with fellow Boeing waitlisters in debating their retention of order slots for the 777X if delays continue. The airline's president, Tim Clark, has hinted that
