The FAA has approved the Airbus A350-900 for Extended-range Twin engine aircraft Operations ‘beyond 180 minutes’ diversion time. This approval means that when the first FAA-affiliated operators start to take delivery of their A350s in 2017 they will be able to serve new direct non-limiting routings, compared with a standard 180 minute diversion time requirement for both FAA and EASA operations. The ETOPS 300 minute option will, in particular, faci

Honeywell And NASA Tackle Supersonic Sound Pollution

New Software And Cockpit Displays Reduce Sonic Boom Noise Impact From Airplanes

Honeywell Aerospace is working with NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center to study the most effective way to visually inform pilots flying supersonic jets about sonic booms, a loud noise caused by current aircraft traveling faster than the speed of sound. Honeywell recently flight-tested new cockpit displays that help pilots see sonic booms before they happen so they can reroute and reduce the effects of aircraft noise over populated areas.

ANN's Daily Aero-Term (05.08.16): Land And Hold Short Operations

Land And Hold Short Operations Operations which include simultaneous takeoffs and landings and/or simultaneous landings when a landing aircraft is able and is instructed by the controller to hold-short of the intersecting runway/taxiway or designated hold-short point. Pilots are expected to promptly inform the controller if the hold short clearance cannot be accepted.

ANN's Daily Aero-Linx (05.08.16)

Aero Linx: The Ancient Order of The Pterodactyl The Ancient Order of The Pterodactyl is the result of the hopes, aspirations and hard work of a small band of kindred spirits. In the spring of 1977, Andrew Wall, George F. Thometz, Marion ‘Gus’ Shrode, and Norman L. Horton, all retired Coast Guard aviators, informally organized a fraternal association open to all pilots who had flown or were flying Coast Guard aircraft. The organization was later expanded to included all personnel who flew in Coast Guard aircraft under official orders. Only those who have willfully placed themselves in harms way and have known that innermost feeling which comes from personal experience resulting in saving life or property can und

Aero-News: Quote Of The Day (05.08.16)

“Important to our progress in reducing the sonic boom impact over land is to have a predictive sonic boom display in supersonic aircraft cockpits that ensures our future quiet supersonic aircraft remain below acceptable noise levels. We have partnered with avionics companies like Honeywell to translate our NASA algorithms into an integrated avionics system that is tested and evaluated by pilots.” Source: Brett Pauer, NASA CST subproject manager at Armstrong Flight Research Center.
