The City of Santa Monica is insisting on creating an unsafe situation at the beleaguered airport with their decision to devote another 3.5 million taxpayer dollars to remove runway pavement in excess of that currently devoted to actual use after the city ‘shortened’ the runway in its continuing battle against all things aviation. The Santa Monica Airport Association is protesting the situation and urging pilots all over the world to contact the city government to stop what many consider to be a dangerous program.

Airborne 04.26.19: Tamarack Emergency AD, Tree Landing, D-Day Squadron

EASA has issued an emergency AD for Cessna Citation jets with Tamarack ATLAS active winglets installed. According to the AD (2019-0086-E), the active load alleviation system (ATLAS), when operational, deflects the Tamarack active control surfaces (TACS) on the outboard wings. Contact Approach An approach wherein an aircraft on an IFR flight plan, having an air traffic control authorization, operating clear of clouds with at least 1 mile flight visibility and a reasonable expectation of continuing to the destination airport in those conditions, may deviate from the instrument approach procedure and proceed to the destination airport by visual reference to the surface. This approach will only be authorized when requested by the pilot and the reported ground visibility at the destination airport is at least 1 statute mile.
