A B-52 lost an engine - quite literally - during a training mission out of Minot AFB in North Dakota last Wednesday. In the 1940s Boeing pioneered the concept of mounting jet engines on a pylon underneath the wing on their bomber aircraft for several reasons. One of these reasons was that a catastrophic engine failure might result in the loss of the engine but would not cause damage to the wing that it was mounted to. Such was the case in this engine f

ANN's Daily Aero-Linx (01.09.17)

Aero Linx: Porterfield Airplane Club I don't know if any of you were a member of the "Porterfield Airplane Club" which Chuck Lebrecht hosted for many years. Chuck has decided to give up the Porterfield Club due to health and economic reasons. An ATC clearance is required for all aircraft to operate in the area, and all aircraft that are so cleared receive separation services within the airspace. The cloud clearance requirement for VFR operations is "clear of clouds."
