Research To Be Conducted At The University Of Nevada, Reno
Australian-designed commercial UAVs are heading to the United States for high-tech testing at the University of Nevada, Reno as part of a new research and development partnership with a commercial delivery, unmanned-aerial-vehicle start-up company. The company, Flirtey, conducted successful, fully automated drone textbook-delivery tests in Sydney, Australia earlier in the year.
“Award For Innovation In Aeronautics” Presented To Michimasa Fujino
The International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS) presented its 2014 Award for Innovation in Aeronautics to Honda Aircraft Company President and CEO Michimasa Fujino during the 29th ICAS Congress (ICAS 2014), which is being held in St. Petersburg, Russia, through Sept. 12. Fujino was recognized by ICAS for his pioneering contributions in the design and development of the HondaJet and its Over-The-Wing Engine Mount configuration.
Contract Awarded To The University Of Texas At San Antonio
The Department of Defense has awarded a $300,000 contract to the University of Texas at San Antonio to study how UAVs might be controlled through human brain activity. The goal of the program is to determine if a soldier could maneuver a UAV using brain signals that are transmitted to the aircraft.
Life Flight Network, based in the Pacific northwest, has taken delivery of its 15th AW119Kx. The aircraft was built in and delivered from AgustaWestland's Philadelphia facility.
Ag Pilot Fatally Injured In Collision With The Structure
A settlement was reached last week on the wrongful death action filed by the family of California agricultural aviator Steve Allen in the amount $6.7 million against a group of defendants representing tower manufacturing, wind energy, land-owning and farming interests for not marking or making aware the location of an unmarked meteorological evaluation tower (MET) to protect the pilot. The settlement establishes a standard of care as to the use of METs for wind prospecting in agricultural areas.
