Textron Reports Q4 2021 Results

Flagging Deliveries, Supply Chain Delays, and Termination of Afghanistan Contracts Take Toll

Textron reported its 4th quarter income for 2021, down a bit from 2020, but overall looking quite good going forward, according to chairman of the board and CEO Scott C. Donnelly. “2021 was a solid year for Textron with strong order flow and execution at Aviation, continued progress on Future Vertical Lift programs at Bell, strong execution and margin performance at Systems, and higher revenues and operating profit at Industrial,” said Donnelly. Textron's Aviation arm saw the delivery of 46 jets in 2021, down from 61 the year before. Elroy Air Unveils Chaparral Cargo Drone

Hybrid VTOL Looks to Fill in Gaps In Supply Chain

Elroy Air released initial information on its upcoming autonomous cargo drone, slated to carry anywhere from 300-500 lbs of cargo up to 300 miles. While not too far off from the design of other commercial drone aircraft, the fixed- wing VTOL features a stout looking cargo pod attached to its fuselage. The Chaparral, as it’s called, boasts a slightly bigger size than other delivery drones, being designed for true cargo carriage instead of home service. The size appears perfect for flying the penultimate leg of a suburban haul from Amazon Prime, if photos are any indication.

AD: Airbus Helicopters Deutschland GmbH (AHD) Helicopters

AD 2022-02-17 Prompted By Reports Of Engine Flame Out Following Prolonged Operations In Falling Snow

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Airbus Helicopters Deutschland GmbH (AHD) Model MBB-BK 117 C-2, MBB-BK 117 D-2, and MBB-BK 117 D-3 helicopters. This AD was prompted by reports of engine flame out following prolonged operations in falling snow on helicopters with an inlet barrier filter (IBF) system installed. This AD requires revising the existing Rotorcraft Flight Manual (RFM) for your helicopter, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference.
