Boeing Allegedly Outsources Customer Training For 737MAX Upgrades To Overseas Pilot Contract House

A union (Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, i.e., SPEEA) is charging that Boeing delivered layoff notices to its remaining seven Flight Training Airplane (FTA) pilots last week, and will instead send the work of providing on-site training to airline customers to an overseas contract house. The 60-day notices of layoff reportedly eliminate all direct Boeing FTA pilots by the end of November, while Boeing is trying to return the 737MAX to service and start delivering some 400 airplanes now awaiting delivery.

FAA Alleges Drug And Alcohol Testing Violations

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes a $95,000 civil penalty against Western Global Airlines of Estero, Fla., for alleged drug and alcohol testing violations. Western Global records show a company employee refused to undergo a random drug test. The company removed him from his safety-sensitive duties, had him evaluated by a substance abuse professional, and returned him to duty. The directive from the substance abuse professional was to conduct monthly follow-up tests on the employee for drug and alcohol use, amounting to 12 drug tests and 12 alcohol tests, beginning in the month the employee returned to duty. AD 2020-18-12 Prompted By The FAA's Analysis Of The Model 777 Fuel System Reviews Conducted By The Manufacturer

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain The Boeing Company Model 777-200, -200LR, and -300 series airplanes. This AD was prompted by the FAA's analysis of the Model 777 fuel system reviews conducted by the manufacturer. This AD requires modifying the fuel quantity indicating system (FQIS) to prevent development of an ignition source inside the center fuel tank due to electrical fault conditions. This AD also provides alternative actions for cargo airplanes. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective October 26, 2020.
