Twelve Attributed To LaGuardia Closing After Southwest Airlines Incident
Airlines reported 13 tarmac delays of more than three hours on domestic flights and three tarmac delays of more than four hours on international flights in July, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report released Thursday. Of the 13 domestic delays, 12 involved flights departing New York’s LaGuardia Airport on July 22, the day the front landing gear of a Southwest Airlines plane collapsed upon landing at the airport.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) has introduced the Saracini Aviation Safety Act of 2013 which would require each commercial aircraft to install a barrier, other than the cockpit door, to prevent access to the flight deck of an aircraft. The legislation is named after Bucks County resident Captain Victor Saracini who piloted United Flight 175 when it was hijacked by terrorists and flown into the World Trade Center.
Higher Efficiency And Thrust Engine Will Power The 787-9
Rolls-Royce has been awarded certification for its higher efficiency and thrust "package C" variant of the Trent 1000 engine that will power the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The type certification, from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), comes as Rolls-Royce prepares to power the first test flight of the Boeing 787-9.
