ATSB Turns Down UAL Request For Loan Guarantees... Again

Well, if this isn't a firm "no," we don't know what is. The Air Transportation Stabilization Board Monday rejected United Airlines' latest request for more than $1 billion in loan guarantees. ATSB Executive Director Michael Kestenbaum said, "The board will not accept any further submissions from United with respect to the application."

Tiff Over Security Issues

In a country where you need all the friends you can get, flying to see them is suddenly much more difficult. Israel has suspended flights of its flagship carrier, El Al, to and from the Turkish capital of Istanbul. This, in a reported dispute with Turkey over aviation security. Specifically, according to the Israeli business publication Globes, the Turks have a problem with armed Israeli security agents posted inside their airports.
