All The TSA Needs, He Said, Is More Money For More Screening

It's not the people. It's the equipment.
That's the word from Adm. David Stone (USN, Ret.), lame-duck leader
of the TSA, in the keynote address at a conference of the American
Association of Airport Executives. But more equipment may not be
enough. Two recent government reports found screeners lack
necessary training and have failed to improve in spotting dangerous
weapons.
The FAA has given Wichita city officials more time to respond to
an ultimatum: Stop subsidizing AirTran or lose your airport grants.
But that may not make a difference -- city leaders appear unwilling
to change their minds and stop multi-million dollar payments to the
airline.

There is strong anecdotal evidence suggesting a deep,
institutional opposition to the FFDO program within the TSA.
Nowhere is that opposition illustrated more dramatically than in
the FFDO applications and screening process, where the TSA has
arbitrarily and, in some cases, prejudicially, rejected a number of
apparently well-qualified candidates.
