Consolation Prize for Airbus Eases Sting of Scaled Down Dubai Orders

Ethiopian Airlines Group will leave the Dubai Airshow with a receipt (or more accurately, an MoU) for 11 brand new A350-900s in tow. The total order book with the carrier now sits at 33 aircraft in all, with 4 of the top-of-the-line A350-1000s. Their fleet today stands at 20 -900 models, the largest operator of the type in Africa.

Zero’s Techniques Aim to Produce Fuel from Air and Water

Boeing has announced a sustainable aviation fuel effort in conjunction with Zero Petroleum of the United Kingdom that will one day produce workable jet fuel from "air and water". Despite the core idea seeming a little out-there, Boeing says Zero's technology can pull it off. "The hydrocarbon fuel obtains carbon from direct air capture and hydrogen from water electrolysis. This Power-to-Liquid process has the potential to significantly reduce emissions across the lifecycle, provided there is an abundance of renewable electricity."

A350-900 Not Getting the Love After Carrier’s Tryst with Boeing

Emirates left the Dubai Airshow with a clutch of widebody orders, bringing its total backlog with the manufacturer to 65 aircraft in all. The order saw them requisition 15 A350-900s, a fair bit fewer than originally expected. Early gossip surrounding the show pointed to disappointing performance of the -900 models in use with Emirates already. According to showtime water cooler talk, the newfangled Rolls-Royce Trent engines have proven a little high-maintenance in the Middle Eastern climate, dampening Emirates' enthusiasm to add more of the same.
