Airborne 10.19.23: JetWave X SATCOM, Air-Show Pilot Hutchins, Foreflight

Honeywell has unveiled its JetWave X architecture, a next-generation high-speed in-flight connectivity solution optimized for the business aviation industry. JetWave X will provide customers with unprecedented coverage and data speeds by leveraging Viasat’s Ka-band network, including its ViaSat-3 satellites and the Global Xpress (GX) satellites from its recently acquired Inmarsat business. Charles Hutchins, the former team lead for Tora Tora Tora, passed away in his Texas home on the morning of 17 October 2023. He was 86-years-old. For the final two years of his life, Mr. Hutchins fought bravely against dementia’s unremitting advance.

On the afternoon of Thursday, 12 October 2023, Coast Guard Sector San Diego personnel respond to a medical emergency aboard a charter fishing vessel christened Legend, then approximately 48-nautical-miles off the Pacific Coast of Southern California’s Point Loma. At approximately 13:00 PDT, Coast Guard Sector San Diego watchstanders received a distress call from a Legend crew-member reporting a 79-year-old male passenger had lost consciousness and fallen. The victim’s symptoms were consistent with a cardiac event.

Defendant Sentenced for Lying to FAA

Noah Felice, age 71, was sentenced to one month behind bars for lying to the Federal Aviation Administration. Felice was previously convicted at the conclusion of a December 2022 jury trial during which evidence was presented implying he, in September 2017, had submitted an application for an airman medical certificate to the FAA. Felice falsely stated on subject document that he’d neither a history of criminal convictions nor was receiving medical disability benefits.

Honeywell Releases 32nd Annual Global Business Aviation Outlook

Honeywell's 32nd annual Global Business Aviation Outlook forecasts up to 8,500 new business jet deliveries worth $278-billion from 2024 to 2033, in line with the same ten-year forecast a year ago. The board of directors of Marshall University’s Bill Noe Flight School has approved the construction of a new hangar at the Charleston, West Virginia institution. In late-September 2023, the first contingent of legacy fighter aircraft operated by the United States Marine Corps’ famed Red Devils Fighter Attack Squadron 232 arrived at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni—a USMC installation located in the Nishiki river delta southeast of the city of Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. The F/A-18C and F/A-18D Hornets, all sporting Raytheon’s APG-79(V)4 advanced combat radar system, will be operated from MCAS Iwakuni as part of a six-month unit deployment.

While Still In The Climb, Just West Of The Airport, The Engine Gradually Lost Total Power

On September 1, 2023, at 0910 eastern daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Challenger II, N2480Y, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Moultonborough, New Hampshire. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. According to the pilot, during takeoff and initial climb, the engine was producing full power without anomalies. Then, while still in the climb, just west of the airport, the engine gradually lost total power.
