Pilot Groups Protest Vaccine Mandate

Demonstrators at Charlotte-Douglas Airport Object to New Biden Policy

US Freedom Flyers, a group of discontented airline pilots, descended upon Charlotte-Douglas Airport, in North Carolina, in a protest against the Biden administration’s latest directive mandating administration of the COVID-19 vaccine. In the newest missive, all private companies with 100 employees or more must enforce a vaccine requirement beginning January 4, 2021. Some mild relief may be seen in limited court interventions, as seen in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals’ emergency stay in Louisiana, but for many workers the judicial system will likely not be quick enough to act so that they retain their employment.

Embraer announced its new family of sustainable concept aircraft as it seeks to prepare for industry, world, and company goals of decreasing carbon emissions. The move will help set the stage for Embraer’s target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. To support the range of new aircraft, the company has partnered with a number of engineering universities, aeronautical research institutes, and other enterprises to incorporate and develop new technologies. The outside help will be vital for their understanding of energy harvesting, storage, thermal management, and integration with aircraft propulsion systems.

Airline Wants to Grow Their Own Techs Ahead of Forecast Industry Shortage

Republic Airways will seek to make its own technicians and call dibs early, partnering with aviation maintenance schools to launch a maintenance cadet program, enabling students to obtain conditional job offers midway through their schooling for future careers at the airline. With similar programs in use for pilots at legacy airlines, competition will heat up for graduates looking to leverage the best deal for themselves once fresh out of school. Students at 2 and 4-year A&P programs are eligible for interview in the program, after taking and passing their FAA general exam at 400 hours of training for their Airframe and Powerplant Certification.

AD 2021-23-05 Retains The Requirements Of AD 2021-18-08, With Clarified Instructions

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2021-18-08, which applied to all Airbus SAS Model A319-171N airplanes; Model A320-271N, -272N, and -273N airplanes; and Model A321-271N, -272N, -271NX, and -272NX airplanes. AD 2021-18-08 required repetitive inspections of the pylon/engine interface rods for damage, and applicable corrective actions, as specified in European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD 2021-0177. AD 2021-18-08 also provided for limited installation of affected parts under certain conditions.
