The FAA continues to be committed to evaluating suitable replacement unleaded fuels to support GA. Phase Two testing of unleaded avgas continues, having completed two and a half years of testing and evaluation since the FAA's selection of the two finalists in the Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative (PAFI) replacement unleaded fuels program. To date, the flight test program is approximately one-third complete, while the engine test program is about halfway complete. Gen. Marshall Celebrates NASA's 60th Anniversary June 16 At NASA In The Park

Agency Was Founded In 1958

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, is partnering with Downtown Huntsville Inc., to fill Big Spring Park East in downtown Huntsville with exhibits, food trucks, live music, educational opportunities for all ages, and even a chance to meet an astronaut this Saturday, June 16, for the annual celebration of NASA and the city of Huntsville -- NASA in the Park. This year's event, to be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the agency's founding in 1958.

Working With Students From Across The U.S. Department Of Defense

The U.S. Navy has awarded a contract to General Dynamics Mission Systems to restore and maintain a satellite system simulator for students at the Naval Postgraduate School, Spacecraft Research and Design Center / Adaptive Optics Center of Excellence. The simulator, a model of a Navy Fleet Satellite (FLTSAT) communications satellite, will help students hone their skills in managing the technical aspects of space systems including satellite command, control and communications and troubleshooting satellite and constellation anomalies.

Considered The First Planets Discovered By The Telescope

Two independent teams of astronomers have used ALMA to uncover convincing evidence that three young planets are in orbit around the infant star HD 163296. Using a novel planet-finding technique, the astronomers identified three disturbances in the gas-filled disc around the young star: the strongest evidence yet that newly formed planets are in orbit there. These are considered the first planets to be discovered with ALMA.

Opportunity Rover In Standby Mode Due To Massive Dust Storm

One of the thickest dust storms ever observed on Mars has been spreading for the past week and a half. The storm has caused NASA's Opportunity rover to suspend science operations, but also offers a window for four other spacecraft to learn from the swirling dust. NASA has three orbiters circling the Red Planet, each equipped with special cameras and other atmospheric instruments. Additionally, NASA's Curiosity rover has begun to see an increase in dust at its location in Gale Crater.
