Last week was both good and bad for the F-35 program. An F-35B went down near MCAS Beaufort in South Carolina, though local authorities quickly confirmed that, "The pilot from the military plane crash safely ejected..." Beaufort is the home of Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501, where training for new F-35 pilots is conducted. Pipistrel's display at AirVenture this year had a heavy emphasis on electric aircraft. Among the advancements on display was the company's electrically powered training aircraft, the Pipistrel ALPHA Electro LSA – which is currently in production.
