While at Sun ‘n Fun 2015, ANN news editor, Tom Patton, stopped by Sport Pylon Air Races and talked with Doc Bailey about their new six-cylinder D- Motor. The six-cylinder D-Motor is being marketed for experimental and light sport aircraft and is brand new in their engine lineup.
Bailey says this is the first one in the United States, although it has been undergoing testing in Germany for a couple of years. He says it provides 125 horsepower and only weighs 178 pounds. He points out that this weight is everything except the battery, prop, and engine mount.
Bailey goes on to explain that the engine comes as a very complete package. He also says they’re looking at a TBO of about 2,000 hours. Because of its water cooling and flathead design it’s an unusual looking engine.
If you’re not familiar with this engine, take a look at the video and listen to what Doc Bailey has to say. It appears to provide a lot of performance for the money, a low parts count, and a unique engine choice that we haven’t had before.
