Follows Release Of EASA Safety Information Bulletin
The FAA has released a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) concerning the engine installation on BN-2T airplanes manufactured by Britten-Norman Aircraft.
The SAIB follows the release of Safety Information Bulletin (SIB) No.: 2015-10 by EASA regarding the Rolls-Royce Corporation Models 250 B17 and 250B17F engine installations on B-N Group Ltd. BN-2T series airplanes.
Rolls-Royce Corporation has released an improvement package for Models 250 B17 and 250B17F engines, identified as “Enhanced Power Turbine”, which consists of Commercial Engine Bulletin (CEB) TP A-1343 and TP CEB-1345 for Model 250B17 engines or TP CEB 72-2093 and CEB TP A-72-2091 for Model 250B17F engines.
Britten-Norman Aircraft Ltd. has an approved modification (NB-M-1904) available to allow installation of those modified engines on certain BN2T series ‘Turbine Islander’ airplanes, which involves replacing N2 gauges and torque gauges, a modification of the power conditioning lever gate on the throttle quadrant, and an airplane flight manual supplement detailing revised flight limitations. Without this concurrent modification, installation of the modified engines is considered not authorized.
Britten-Norman Aircraft Ltd. has not developed an approved modification for installation of modified engines on BN2T-4R or BN2T-4S ‘Turbine Islander’ airplanes.
EASA did not issue an AD concerning this situation because at this time this situation is not considered to be an unsafe condition that would warrant AD action.
The FAA recommends that maintainers of the mentioned airplane models be aware that installation of the modified engines referenced above is authorized only for the BN2T series airplanes and not for the Models BN2T-4R and BN2T-4S airplanes.
