For Safety And Savings
Property owners at Holley Mountain Airpark took both safety and
economic facts to heart recently as they laid claim to Official
Arkansas Fire Academy Certification. The gated community of
aviation enthusiasts now can boast of being part of the Holley
Mountain Airpark Volunteer Fire Department I.D. Number 71017.
"Twenty-three of our good neighbors here on the mountain and our
fleet of five fire trucks have been certified through the first
official training process, with a second training commencing soon,"
said Jim Collom, President of the Holley Mountain Property Owners
Association, Inc. He recently addressed that group's Board of
Directors and elaborated how the achievement comes back to the
community as both increased safety and reduced insurance costs
FBOs and private runways in rural communities often rely on
their local Volunteer Fire Department to meet emergency needs.
Also, as many airpark homeowners have belatedly become aware,
whether or not a community has ready access to fire protection and
safety services has a big impact on what the homeowner pays for
insurance.
Essentially, proficiency in firefighter training, volume of
water supply and quality of equipment - ie: fire fighting vehicles,
protective gear, radio communications, etc. - determines a fire
department's "rating," usually expressed as an "ISO rating."
Homes in fire districts with higher ratings pay higher insurance
premiums than those with lower ratings. Accordingly, homeowners in
districts which have an ISO rating of 9 may pay 70% more per year
than homeowners in districts with fire departments that have
achieved an ISO rating of 5.
