Three Safe In SD Cirrus 'Chute Deployment

Flight Didn't Get Very Far

ANN Realtime Update--2311, 02.06.06: Aero-News has received confirmed reports from the Cirrus community of a CAPS 'chute deployment after an SR22 lifted off from an airport in Wagner, South Dakota (KAGZ) in near-freezing temps, on an IFR flight plan, followed by flight into IMC. The incident occurred at approximately 1330 Central Time. All three onboard the airplane are reported safe.

The aircraft had only been in the air a short time before the pilot, who was en route to Schaumberg, IL with two passengers onboard, popped the parachute. The aircraft was identified as N751CD, a 2001 SR22 registered in May of 2004, to Scott Doom of Wagner, SD.

The plane was reportedly on the ground within 18 minutes after it lifted off from the airport -- and sources say the airplane hadn't gone very far. Airmets in the area confirmed icing potential, and the ground temp was at, or near, freezing at the time of takeoff. Regardless; the exact cause of the deployment has yet to be officially disclosed.

ANN will bring you more details of this incident as they become available.
