Appareo Granted STC for Helicopter Dashcam

AIRS-400 Records Video, Audio, Noise with Cloud Transfer

Appareo has obtained certification for its AIRS-400 system, a 4K ultra-high-definition Airborne Image Recording System. AIRS-400 has been given a Supplemental Type Certificate from the FAA for use in the Airbus AS350, Bell 206, and Bell 407.

The AIRS records flight data, audio, and video to both a removable SD card and internal crash-hardened memory with the ability to transmit it over the air via cell networks for offsite backup. The tool is a helpful aid to monitor or critique flights, whether addressing safety concerns, evaluating aircraft use, or reviewing flight instruction.

AIRS-400 is one of the easiest flight recording devices to install as a small, self-contained system needing only aircraft power, ground, and GPS antenna connections. Appareo says simple installation is one of the best features, allowing fleet managers to obtain aircraft field approvals and get back to work. The AIRS not only captures the forward video feed but intercom audio, ambient sound, and detailed flight data for post-flight reconstruction. Appareo plans to add to the STC AML in the future.

AIRS-400 is now shipping, and Airbus owners may like to know it is fully "plug n' play" compatible with previous factory installations of Appareo's Vision 1000 systems.

“FDM or FOQA programs are valuable for fleet operators to monitor trends, identify areas of risk, and deploy training programs to mitigate those risks. However, it can be a challenge for mixed-fleet operators to effectively analyze their flight data when it is collected in multiple acquisition systems” said David Batcheller, President & CBO of Appareo. “The AIRS-400 is an ideal solution for those programs because it was designed for use in both modern and legacy aircraft,” Batcheller said.
