NASA Langley Solicits Buyout Offers From Employees

Facility Aims To Cut Approximately 40 Jobs

Employees at NASA's Langley Research Center will be offered buyouts over the next two weeks.

Word went out Monday that employees could apply for a buyout. Management at Langley aims to reduce job duplication... a department that has 30 people assigned to a particular task, for example, may only really need 28.

"We're looking for no more than 40 [buyouts]," said Leah Meisel, director of the center's Human Capital Management office, to the Hampton Roads Daily Press. "This is a very, very specifically targeted buyout."

Langley managers had to receive permission from NASA to offer the buyouts. Workers who are accepted for the buyout plan would likely eave in January, although the center may keep them on until March.

Currently, Langley has 1,964 civil service employees. Most are working on projects related to the upcoming push to return to the moon. A year ago, the number was 1,999.
