Greensboro, NC Business Leaders Bullish On Aviation Sector

Industry Means Jobs In The 'Triad' Area

The aviation and aerospace industry could be the single greatest economic opportunity in the Greensboro, NC Triad region, according to business leaders speaking at a recent economic summit.

The region is the location for both Honda Aircraft Company and TIMCO Aviation Services, but many smaller companies are also key to growth in the region, according to Penny Whiteheart, managing director of NC Aerospace. “The value chain of more than 200 companies here in the Piedmont Triad that are supporting aviation and aerospace, and adding jobs and capital investment in our region and our state," she said at the recent Global Opportunities Summit.

Time Warner Cable News reports that Kip Blakey, vice president of industry and government relations at TIMCO, said the location of the region is attractive to manufacturers. The centralized location means that parts can be shipped to Airbus in Europe, or by rail or truck to Boeing in Washington State.

Adding to the optimism are plans to open 1,000 additional acres with runway access to development at Piedmont Triad International Airport (KGSO).
