United Airlines Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month With Pink Program

Wearing Pink Uniform Accessories From The Cockpit To The Ramp

United Airlines employees are showing their support for Breast Cancer Awareness by sporting pink uniform items throughout the month of October. United's Pink Program allows frontline employees to purchase exclusively-produced pink uniform items to wear to work – including ties, neck scarves and hats – with proceeds benefiting nonprofit organizations dedicated to breast cancer awareness, greater access to screening services and support services for individuals battling breast cancer.

"Each year, co-workers from around the company proudly wear their pink to show our customers our support for this very important cause," says United's Managing Director of Community Affairs Sonya Jackson. "From pilots and flight attendants, to our gate agents and co-workers on the ramp, it's inspiring to see our teams step up to help these organizations that provide crucial breast cancer services in regions across the country."

Since 2009, United employees from nearly all 50 states and 11 countries around the world have participated in the Pink Program, raising more than $60,000 for breast cancer awareness. United raises additional funds for the nonprofit organizations through the airline's fourth-quarter Eat for Good program which donates a portion of the proceeds from the sale of on-board ChoiceMenu items to various charitable organizations. Together with employees, the Pink Program and other United-sponsored efforts have raised more than $2 million for nonprofit organizations serving individuals affected by breast cancer and their families.

Proceeds for this year's Pink Program will benefit:

  • A Silver Lining Foundation: Provides cost-free mammograms in the Chicago area with the Buy Mom a Mammogram™ program and quality of life assistance during treatment.
  • Living Beyond Breast Cancer: Provides national educational programs and services for the newly diagnosed, young women, women with advanced breast cancer, women at high risk for developing the disease, and African-American and Latina women across the U.S.
  • Sisters Network: Provides educational outreach and advocacy training for the African-American community from chapters located throughout the U.S.
  • The Rose: Provides mammography screening, diagnosis, access to treatment and support to all women in the Houston area regardless of their ability to pay.
  • Women's Cancer Resource Center: Provides cost-free educational and emotional support services to populations in the San Francisco area including Latina, African-American and Lesbian/Bisexual women.

United proudly supports hundreds of community organizations that work to improve lives through health and education, provide opportunities for youth, improve the environment, and connect the company with arts and culture. United's more than 85,000 co-workers offer their time, talents and energy to make an impact in their communities. United partners with more than 200 organizations to address needs and issues in order to improve lives and to promote change for the better.
