TSA Screener Accused Of Stealing Cash From Checked Bag

$80,000 Was On Its Way To Pakistan

A TSA screener at JFK International in New York was charged Thursday with stealing $80,000 in cash from luggage bound for Pakistan. The 23-year old screener reportedly admitted he'd stolen at least some of the cash and was promptly arrested.

If convicted, Frank Ulerio, Jr., faces up to 15-years in prison.

New York Police said the victim, a 49-year old Queens resident, discovered the missing cash when he arrived in Pakistan. New York and Port Authority Police officers began the investigation immediately, and soon zeroed in on Ulerio.

When questioned, the TSA employee reportedly admitted to stealing $60,000, saying he needed the money to pay off gambling debts. Police said they confiscated $18,000 of the stolen cash when he was arrested on Wednesday.

He's now awaiting arraignment in a New York court.
