United Announces Performance-Based Incentives Program

Carrier Hopes To Go From Worst To First In On-Time Numbers

United Airlines announced Monday a new performance-based incentive program available to the majority of represented employees, which could net each eligible worker $1,200 annually if targets are met.

"We are all focused on operating a good airline that is safe, clean and reliable; and our employees work everyday to achieve an on-time operation for our customers," says John Tague, executive vice president and chief operating officer. "We are pleased to offer a program that will provide further incentive for our employees and to recognize their efforts."

United says the program was developed to create a stronger link between pay and performance against United's most critical goals providing greater opportunity for all employees to benefit as United improves its performance for customers.

Under the new program, employees will have the opportunity to earn monthly cash rewards of up to $100 if United achieves a first-place ranking among competitors in Department of Transportation on-time arrival rankings, and a $65 payment if the company achieves a second-place ranking or meets its own stated goal.

Those employees have some work to do, however... as United has traditionally staked out a place among the worst-performing airlines in that regard.
