North Carolina Man Arrested In Drone Incident Faces More Charges

Accused Of Second UAV Violation, Threatening A Witness

Authorities have filed additional charges against a Greenville, NC man accused of flying his DJI Phantom 3 quadcopter near a medical helicopter over a helipad at the Vidant Medical Center last month.

Along with the initial charge of interference with a manned aircraft by an unmanned aircraft system, Justin Chillo (pictured in booking photo) now faces a second similar charge, as well as intimidation of a witness.

The second interference charge came from an incident that reportedly occurred three days prior to the incident that led to the initial UAV charge.

But television station WITN reports that Chillo has also been accused of driving past a police station and taking photographs of a vehicle belonging to a witnesses in one of the cases. He later allegedly sent a text message to the witness saying he would do what he had to to protect himself.

The court has set bond on the new charges of $20,000, which will jump to $100,000 should he have any contact with the witness, including on social media.

Chillo is out of jail on bond.
