Congratulations, It's A Girl

Baby Born On Transatlantic Flight, Mom May Get Big Bill

Aren't pregnant women supposed to avoid air travel in the final weeks before they deliver? Well, a Jordanian woman apparently wasn't quite honest when asked how far along she was. She said she was in her 27th week of pregnancy. Still, flying from Amsterdam to Chicago Tuesday, she went into labor.

The woman was aboard a KLM flight when it became readily apparent she was going to have a child any minute. Three doctors on board helped the pilot decide what to do. In the end, he diverted to Newfoundland.

But not in time, it seems. Just a few miles from the airport, the woman gave birth in they galley. Both mother and newborn daughter are doing fine.

And speaking of fines, KLM is now mulling over whether the woman should pay for her dishonesty. Specifically, the lawyers are mumbling about holding her (or at least, her insurance company) responsible for the costs of diverting to Newfoundland -- costs that could turn out to be quite considerable.
