Cantankerous Relationship Finds Agreement in Principle

The NetJets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots and NetJets corporate reached an Agreement in Principle, which should set the table for a return to normality at the operator. The Agreement in Principle is being reviewed by the Negotiating Committee before their trip back to Columbus, Ohio. They plan to continue the process of transitioning the Agreement into a Tentative Agreement.

Industry Bodies Roused to Action After Unnamed Controversy

The Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals published an open leader to the industry, flanked by more than half a dozen special-interest associations in their fight against racism in the industry. The letter was cosigned by the ALPA, the Latino Pilots Association, the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees, the National Gay Pilots Association, Professional Asian Pilots Association, the Sisters of the Skies, United States Army Black Aviation Association, Inc., and Women in Aviation International.

Swiss Explorer Bertrand Piccard, the first man to fly nonstop around the world using both a balloon and a solar-powered aircraft, is calling his next journey: hydrogen-powered circumnavigation in 2028. Piccard will be working with Climate Impulse, a brand that will support him in his mission to make an around-the-world flight that generates zero harmful emissions. NBAA has welcomed the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s call for “decisive” federal action to remove barriers that discourage pilots from reporting and seeking care for mental health issues. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee leaders recently sent a bipartisan letter to the FAA from more than 40 members of Congress encouraging the agency to update its mental health protocols to ensure pilots get mental health care in a timely manner.

Bristow's Irish subsidiary has received its Air Operator Certificate from the Irish Aviation Authority, paving the way for the "next generation of Coast Guard search and rescue aviation services in Ireland." It makes for nearly a dozen such certificates in the Bristow family, not too shabby for a rotary-wing operator. "Gaining an AOC is a fundamental requirement to provide search and rescue in Ireland," said Neil Ebberson, Bristow Director Government Services. "It was awarded after the successful completion of a lengthy application and assessment process run by the IAA and ensures the highest standards of professionalism and safety are met in the country."

During The Departure Climb, The Pilot Transmitted That He Lost The Engine

On January 21, 2024, at 1320 central standard time, a Cirrus SR22, N255JP, was involved in an accident near Little Rock, Arkansas. The airplane was destroyed. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. A witness stated that after the airplane was started, the wheel chock was removed, and within two minutes at the most, the airplane was taxied for departure. The flight departed runway 4L and during the departure climb, the pilot transmitted that he lost the engine. The airplane entered a bank, descended, and impacted the ground near the airport fire station.
