Lycoming Continues To Power Much Of GA Via Innovation and Perseverance
ANN CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Jim Campbell sits down with Lycoming’s Michael Craft at EAA AirVenture 2013 to get an update on what’s going on in the world of general aviation engines. Topics about new products include the new Lycoming iE2 engine. With its electronic ignition, throttle, mixture, and prop control operated through an integrated system, it’s a state of the art one-lever controls everything powerplant.
As for the lightweight O-233, it’s a great little engine waiting for the market to develop for its use.
Craft discusses the future of non-leaded aviation gas and points out that Lycoming has supported Piper in its experiments with alternative fuels. He says that moving to non-leaded gas will be a great benefit to engine longevity. He commented on jet fuel diesel engines and said that while the technology is here, its total impact on the market is small at this time. He says the consumer needs to make sure it’s for them.
