Group Uploads Hi-Res Moon Images To Flickr

Nearly 10,000 Images Show Every Aspect Of America's Journeys To The Moon

Over 8,400 high-resolution images depicting America's Moon missions have been uploaded to the photo sharing service Flickr.

The Project Apollo Archive (PAA) has digitized the original photos taken by the Hasselblad cameras carried on many moon missions. Originally, the photos were scaled down and color corrected, but PAA creator Kipp Teague told The Planetary Society that people were interested in the originals, so they were re-scanned and uploaded at 1800 DPI.

Teague says that the collection includes every image captured by the chest-mounted Hasselblad cameras as well as many other photos taken from orbit around the Earth and the Moon and the journey between.

Images from some missions have not been obtained by the PAA, Teague said, including Apollo 8 and 13, as he has only processed those provided to him by the Johnson Space Center. He said that's because he had not requested them for the original project, which was to document the surface missions. While he hopes images from those missions can be made available, the major roadblock is funding for NASA to provide the scans.
