Launches New Electronic Flight Bag
CMC Electronics Inc.
has launched a new, second-generation Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag
(EFB) designed specifically for airlines and the discerning
business jet owner. This new EFB, designated the CMA-1100,
bridges the gap between low-end off-the-shelf PC tablets and
high-end Class 3 EFBs, by offering an avionics-grade hardware
package and certification to DO-160D.
Designed for use in all phases of flight, the CMA-1100 consists
of a lightweight, compact and self-contained electronic display and
processing unit, and a companion power and expansion module unit.
In addition to software definable "FMS-style" line-select keys that
surround the high-quality display, the CMA-1100 offers a
"film-on-glass" touch-sensitive screen providing pilots with a
choice when accessing or navigating through EFB software
applications such as electronic charts, checklists, e-documents,
performance calculations, real-time weather, surveillance video and
moving maps.
Bruce Bailey, vice-president, commercial aviation explains:
"With features that are usually not found in a Class 2 EFB, the CMC
Electronics' CMA-1100 is truly in a class of its own. Our expertise
in flight management systems, global positioning systems, enhanced
vision systems and aeronautical communications products has helped
expand our EFB offering with additional applications."
CMC Electronics
launched its electronic flight bag line of products last year and
retained responsibility for the former Northstar aviation sector
products, further to the sale of its subsidiary Northstar
Technologies of Acton, MA, to Brunswick Corporation of Lake Forest,
IL. The former Northstar aviation sector products, including the
CT-1000G Electronic Flight Bag and the M1 and M3 series GPS
products, now benefit from CMC Electronics' expertise in avionics
manufacturing and maintenance, and its international support
capabilities.
