Kingcobra Returns To The Skies

P-63F Aircraft Restored By CAF Achieves First Flight

A P-63F Kingcobra restored by the Commemorative Air Force has returned to the air.

The first post-restoration flight took place near Houston, TX on April 14. The airplane had been grounded since it made a gear-up landing at Skywest Airport near Midland, TX in October, 2013.

Warbird News reports that the gear-up landing did not damage the airplane too badly, but extensive repairs to the prop, engine and gearbox were necessary.

This particular airplane is maintained by the P-63 Sponsor Group, and is one of only two of the "F" model ever built, according to the report, and one of just three Kingcobras that are airworthy.

The airplane is expected to be making the rounds on the airshow circuit this year, so keep an eye out for this rare warbird.
