Baker Aviation, IEP Expand Custom Fire Containment Safety

Has Developed A New Military Drone Battery Solution

Baker Aviation, in affiliation with Industrial Energy Products (IEP) has developed a drone battery containment kit for the military.

“This is another example of the tailored containment solutions that we provide to the lithium-ion battery powered device market to mitigate risks of runaway fire, smoke and explosion,” stated Ray Goyco, Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer at Baker Aviation Maintenance.

“We pioneered the lithium-ion battery runaway solution in 2010 with HOT-STOP ‘L’, and the demand continues to rise for our proven containment solution as unexpected eruptions continue to increase on aircraft around the world. In many instances, we have created customized solutions for airlines and other aircraft operators, and now we are developing a specialized drone battery containment kit for a branch of the military. We cannot share all the product details at this time but our new clients recognize the value we add with the ability to contain the immediate threat and allow their mission to be completed.  As a military veteran myself, I am proud and excited about this opportunity to supply a division of our military with this HOT-STOP ‘L’ safety product,” added Goyco.

Baker Aviation is approved by the System for Award Management (SAM) and has also engaged with various government agencies with the existing HOT-STOP ‘L’ line of technology. The HOT-STOP 'L' Fire Containment Kit safely contains fires, explosions and smoke emissions from Lithium-Ion powered devices without the aid of a water supply; however, HOT-STOP products allow for the use of water, for airlines and operators complying with SAFO FAA recommendations. The distinctive HOT-STOP ‘L’ solution has been successfully demonstrated twice in live fire evaluations at the FAA Technical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey and further independently fire tested by flight departments and airlines.

As the only product line in this market to receive burn certifications, the HOT-STOP ‘L’ is different from other products. Fast and easy to use, the light-weight HOT-STOP ’L’ Kits include a pair of 14” fire safety gloves and can be used to safely store a laptop, tablet, or smart phone when not in use, contain an overheating device, or one that is in full thermal runaway. The bags are made up of multiple durable fabrics with a felt inner core that has a 3200ºF melting point which is sandwiched between two outer layers that have a 2080ºF melting point and are proven to absorb energy and fire while eliminating the escape of smoke, sparks, and flames. Multiple sizes are available to fit various devices up to the large 25” x 25” bag designed to contain defibrillators and all-in-one computers. Optional accessories are also available, including a carry/stowage sling and an exterior carry bag with zipper.

The new EVOLUTION series of HOT-STOP ‘L” was recently introduced to target the airlines that are looking for containment solutions that will minimize the risk of unknown devices being brought on board, including portable charger/battery packs, e-cigarettes as well as internal equipment, such as defibrillators, and electronic flight bags that are carried inside the cockpit. The new zipper technology offers an additional layer of security with its zero tolerance, airtight closure to the bag that is designed to contain a device in full thermal runaway until it has burned out.  It can be deployed in less than five easy steps. New EVOLUTION orders come with an exterior carry bag or sling.
