Ouch! Taxiing Jet Collides With Three Other Planes At FXE

No One Hurt... But Lots Of Bent, Foamy Metal

When airport officials use the term "bumper cars" to describe an incident, you know it won't be good. A Rockwell Sabreliner 265 bizjet reportedly struck the propeller of a Cessna Caravan while taxiing on the ramp at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) Friday afternoon, setting off a chain of events that resulted in four wrecked aircraft, covered in fire-fighting foam.

No one was injured in the melee on the World Jet Charters ramp, which occurred as the taxiing Sabreliner (type shown at right) was moving to another area of the ramp for maintenance, reports the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The chain of events still isn't crystal-clear, but here's what's being reported so far. According to FXE spokesman Ted Lawson, the Sabreliner apparently lost control when it hit the Caravan's prop, and proceeded to spin into a parked Sabreliner... and then a third Sabre, that was under tow.

"It was like a crash on the ground, like automobiles," witness Juan Ulloa told NBC-6. All the planes were sprayed with foam by the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department's hazardous materials team, after some fuel spilled from one of the aircraft.

The NTSB will investigate Friday's incident, and the FAA will also reportedly get involved, according to the television station.
