Cirrus Down Off Coast Of China

Three On Board Survive Accident Off The Coast Of South China's Guangdong Province

A U.S.-made Cirrus SR22 airplane went down in the ocean off the coast of South China's Guangdong Province last Wednesday, but all three people on board reportedly survived the ditching.

The airplane was owned by Zhuhai Hanxing General Aviation Company, according to a report from China.org.cn. The three on board were rescued by local fishermen about a half hour after the plane went down. Chinese officials indicated that an engine failure was the likely cause of the accident.

The report indicates that the three who had been on board the airplane were floating on seat cushions designed for floatation when the fishing vessel came to pull them from the water. One of those on board was the head of the company that owned the airplane.

The Cirrus has also been pulled from the water and moved to a safe location. There was no indication that the planes airframe parachute had been deployed.
