Ends Quarter Slightly Below 2020 Numbers, Delivers 11 More Planes Over Year
Brazil's favorite (i.e. only) jet manufacturer announced its 2021 finish with 55 deliveries, split with 16 commercial aircraft and 39 executive jets.
That number flagged a bit in comparison to the 4th quarter 2020 numbers, which saw 71 deliveries with a 28/43 split. Overall, Embraer delivered 141 jets throughout 2021, besting its 2020 numbers by 11 aircraft.
Embraer has been leading the sub-150 seat commercial jet market, quite handily owning the regional jet market to the point where the firm's ERJ nomenclature has blurred the lines between "regional jet" and "Embraer regional jet" in colloquial use. The reason for the delivery slump in the last quarter is not too mysterious amid a series of production slowdowns and problems around the world. The global supply economy has still felt repeated pangs and contractions of goods and materials despite the supposed normalcy of things. Anything from raw materials to vital chipsets have seen shortages affect production of nearly anything electronic, and Embraer's Brazilian home can only supply so much from its own domestic market.
Overall, the firm's 2021 was not poor by any means, a time period which saw its backlog swell to nearly 2,000 firm orders for E-series aircraft to reach the highest value levels seen since the halcyon pre-pandemic days of 2018. Overall, if delivered at list value, the order book at the end of 2021 was worth $17 billion. As it stands, Embraer seems confident that the upward trajectory of the regional airline market will continue.
