One Injured In Hummel Bird Accident South Of LAL

Light Aircraft Comes Down Near GEICO Office

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 04.18.07 1500 EDT: Aero-News has confirmed a Hummel Bird light aircraft, flying from Lakeland-Linder Regional Airport as part of the annual fly-in now underway, came down in a parking lot south of the airport Wednesday morning and hit several parked vehicles, injuring its pilot.

The incident occurred at approximately 1100 EDT Wednesday, according to Lakeland Police Public Information Officer Jack Gillen. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Gillen identified the pilot as Jim Goodyear, 47. He is in stable condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center after suffering injuries to his legs and ribs. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The aircraft (file photo of type, above) came down in the parking lot of a GEICO insurance office, located at 3535 West Pipkin Road in Lakeland.
