Cirrus Down After Attempted Go-Around

Out in Lincoln, NE they're calling it a miracle... four people were able to walk away from a weekend accident in a Cirrus SR22, and nobody was seriously hurt.

It happened Saturday morning on pilot Daryll Lightner's property, as he was trying to land on a rain-slicked grass strip. After sliding along on the field for a short distance, authorities say Lightner powered up to go around.

The plane (file photo of type, below) got off the ground again... but on climbout the landing gear clipped the trees at the end of the strip, bringing the plane down. One of the passengers was able to climb out of the wreckage, and call for help.

Witnesses told Lincoln's KTIV-4 that the plane's wings were ripped off, and the fuselage was cut in half by a tree. There was no fire.

Representatives with Cirrus were headed for Lincoln Monday morning, to remove the explosive charge in the plane's parachute system. The NTSB and FAA are also investigating the accident.
