Flybe Suspending Inverness-London City Service

Flights To Stop February 22 Due To Lack Of Demand

U.K. regional carrier Flybe said last week that it plans to suspend its Inverness to London City service as of February 22 because there were not enough passengers to sustain the route.

The move was described as "disappointing" by the Drew Hendry, leader of the Highland Council. The BBC reports that Hendry said that local officials has asked for a meeting with Flybe to discuss the suspension.

The service was launched in October. The Inverness Courier reports that a spokesman for the airline said "Flybe constantly reviews its schedule as part of its disciplined approach to growth.

"As a result, Flybe is regrettably suspending its Inverness to London City service with effect from Sunday 22nd February due to lower than anticipated passenger numbers."

Hendry said that it was "disappointing that the Highland Council has not been consulted in the decision," and added that there are still fights to the Gatwick, Belfast, Bristol, and other European destinations.

Flybe has not said whether the suspension is permanent, or if it could be reinstated at some point in the future.
