Two Dead, One Hurt When Cherokee Plunges Into Auto Body Shop

The wing of a Piper Cherokee, rising from the wreckage of a Fort Lauderdale (FL) auto body shop, stood as a sad sentinel after the aircraft dove into the shop on Wednesday.

The FAA says two people on board the aircraft were killed, one critically injured, in the accident. The aircraft was reportedly headed for Pompano Beach when it went down, crashing into the building near Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.

FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the aircraft was registered to the Pompano Senior Squadron Flying Club, but had no information about the identities of those on board.

There was no immediate indication that anyone on the ground had been hurt.
