Who Had LSA's at the Sport Pilot Expo?
Here's a guide to who the exhibitors were at Sebring last
week. We started with the ones the Expo listed and added the ones
that we personally saw and spoke with that weren't on the list. One
exhibitor at least (Titan) couldn't make the new dates.
We use the same categories as we did in our report on Day 2:
Reborn Legends, Young Turks, Legacy Kits, Trikes, Gyros, and
Powered Parachutes. Here, we're also featuring Accessories, Parts,
"Stuff," and services.
Not everything was a sportplane. You also had every kind of
thing you would put into, onto, underneath or in reasonable
proximity to a sportplane there.
Here Are The Accessories, Parts, "Stuff," and Services...
Ballistic Recovery Systems (BRS)
Not too much can be said about this. It's one of those things
like life insurance and roll bars that you hope you ever need. If
there comes a time in your flying career when you need one and
don't have it, you won't have long to worry about it, at least. BRS
Chutes have already saved three lives in 2006.
D&E Aircraft of Florida
These folks had a variety of wing kits available for the guy
that wants to roll his own cub -- the most popular is the
Taylorcraft profile, which gives a Cub significantly more speed
than the original Cub Clark Y. But there are Riblett airfoils, and
a Citabria airfoil for those of you who can't keep your Cub right
side up.
Lockwood Aviation & Lockwood Aviation Supply
This Sebring-based pair of businesses, well established in the
SportPlane world, offers instruction on the one hand and hardware
-- especially Rotax engines -- on the other.
PilotMall.com
Pilot supplies.
Sarasota Avionics, Inc
An avionics shop, what else? Web site in a state of flux at
press time.
Sensenich Wood Propeller Co.
Despite the name, the
company formed when Sensenich split into metal- and wood-prop wings
doesn't just make wood props. Indeed, their hot ticket at the show
was a carbon-fiber 70" prop that was ground-adjustable and
optimized for the wildly popular 80-100 HP Rotax 912 series
engines. A similar 64" prop is in development for Jabiru, and a
three-blade 72" is underway for geared Subaru engines.
Thor Worldwide
Maker of waxes and coatings, including specialty aircraft
waxes.
Trade-A-Plane
If you are not
subscribing to Trade-a-Plane, and you say you're looking for an
airplane, you're not fooling anybody.
Trio Avionics, Inc
Had an interesting autopilot in two versions. One was a simple
altitude hold, the other worked in two axes and would track a GPS
flight plan.
US Ultralight Ass'n
Been around a long time, still around.
Windsok
Ever wonder how companies like Hirth and BRS get those custom
windsocks with their logos on 'em? They go to Windsok (or, as was
the case here, Windsok came to them at a show). They've got
everything from a fresh skin for your old beat up windsock at your
field, to one with your own colors, N-Number, or design or
logo.
XCOM Avionics
Makers of compact avionics. They had a small com radio with
intercom included (something Becker also offers) but the really
neat thing was a unit with a separate remote head -- perfect for
tandem aircraft.
Well, that's it! If you were at the show, exhibiting, and
somehow we missed you, drop us a line (editor@aero-news.net) and we'll
update this listing, which we expect will be perennially
popular.
If you want to attend next year's US Sport Aviation Expo, it'll
be in January again, from the 11th to the 14th of January 2007, and
we'll see you there! (Note that the website hasn't been updated
yet. It will be in due course).
