Commercial Airliners Go Missing From Tripoli Airport

Islamists Captured Airport In August, 11 Jetliners Missing

Nearly a dozen commercial jetliners have been reported missing following the takeover of Tripoli International Airport in Libya by Islamist forces last month.

The aircraft have reportedly been stolen, and their whereabouts are unknown, according to a report from the Washington Free Beacon and relayed by The Blaze.

Counterterrorism officials have expressed concern about the airplanes relative to the upcoming anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the United States in 2001. Some think that similar attacks may be carried out in North Africa using the stolen airplanes.

Senior state department officials would not confirm that the airliners were missing. However, the U.K. newspaper the Daily Mail posted photographs appearing to show Islamist rebels posing with the airplanes at the airport, which has been left largely in ruins by the fighting there.
